Berlin Cosmopolitan School Conversion of the registry office Mitte I into BCS school building, Berlin 2008/2010/2013  working on heritage-protected buildings

Conversion of Europe's first employment office and later used as a registry office building into the Berlin Cosmopolitan School headquaters.
The school is gradually taking possession of the building.
On the standard floors, carefully placed wall openings transform the generously proportioned corridor areas into light-flooded learning and meeting spaces. The storage areas in the basement allow for the installation of a canteen with its own supply kitchen. The compact inner-city courtyard areas are defined for play and sports.
Existing tectonic elements and materials are secured and placed in the new context.
The project transforms the structure of an administrative building into a clearly laid-out school building with a distinct identity and roots in the inner-city neighbourhood.
